What types of image can I send you?

We can work from a digital file, 35mm negative, slide or a photographic print. Your negatives, slides or prints are scanned to a digital file and enlarged using latest technology to produce a sharp image, whether canvas prints or photo enlargements.

What format should my digital file be?

For your canvas prints or photos we can accept jpeg or TIFF files. We can also accept Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop files if you are a designer or photographer.

Can I upload or email large files?

If your file is larger than 5Mb send us an email requesting access to our web based file transfer site.

What resolution should my files be?

The greater the resolution of the file the better the result you get. Ideally, set your camera for high resolution when planning to enlarge your images. However, we have the latest software, which enables us to successfully enlarge most images and maintain sharpness and clarity when producing your photos on canvas.

For sharp output when printing your digital file should contain a minimum of 200 pixels per inch (ppi). Files with 100-200 ppi may produce acceptable prints but will not have the detail that larger files will display. If you are concerned about the quality of your canvas print, please contact us and we can test print a portion of the image for you to check, either emailed to you or a hard proof mailed ($15.00 charge).

Will the print be exactly as I see the image on my monitor?

This will depend on your monitor and whether it is colour calibrated or not. Our prints will match exactly what we see on our monitors as they are colour calibrated, if you are unsure of your monitors colour reproduction or, the colour of your canvas prints are décor critical ask for a hard proof, the cost is just $15.00. We will mail you an A4 copy of your image so that you can check colour and detail in the print.

Will my image continue around the side of the canvas frame?

Unless specifically asked we aim to wrap the image around the frame. Where this results in a significant loss of the main subject we position the image on the front of the frame only and use a white border for the wrap around the frame.

What material do you print your canvases on?

From research and experience in the UK canvas market we have chosen a high quality canvas 100% acid free matt canvas. The canvas has good weave texture giving a natural canvas texture with minimal imperfections.

How are the canvas prints produced?

We use the latest technology in large format printing more details can be found in Canvas Printing – Why Choose Achia Images. Using archival pigment inks rather than dye inks we are able to produce canvas prints not only of exceptional quality, but also with longevity of more than 100+ years. After printing, the canvas is laminated with three coats of laminate spray, which further protects the canvas from UV light and general scuffing.

How is the canvas mounted?

The canvas is stretched over a custom made wooden frame. The frame is manufactured from kiln dried NZ timber selected for its tight grain and lack of knots and deformities. It is the lack of knots and deformities, which reduces the likelihood of warping. The edges of the frame are beveled to minimize stress on the canvas, which eliminates ink cracking. The frame is also chamfered so that the canvas sits above the frame, which eliminates “frame shadow”.

Is there anything I need to know about caring for my canvas?

Basically treat your canvas prints as you would any other artwork. Don't hang in direct sunlight. Use a duster to remove dust from the top and front of your canvas prints regularly. For finger-marks and other small marks left by insects use a soft white cloth, which may be dampened and gently rub the marked canvas. The inks and laminate we use give some water-fastness and protection from abrasion, however we cannot offer any warranties for damage resulting from cleaning.

Are your photographic prints fade resistant?

Yes, we use both UV inks and long life Vivera inks which have been independently tested for fade resistance. All our prints have a minimum fade resistance of 80 years.
